Title: Doing the Right Thing Right: Revisiting the SLP Scope of Practice & EBP to Guide Ethical Decision Making for Students from Marginalized Backgrounds
What Counts as a Word?: Implementing a Translanguaging in AACtion Framework with Pediatric AAC Users

There are pervasive barriers and limitations in the acquisition and use of the spectrum of AAC (i.e. no to high tech) for school-aged children. However, opportunities to build and use expressive language occur throughout the day. Despite lack of access and availability of external tools, supporting overall language use, acquisition, and development in nonspeaking students is essential. The Translanguaging in AACtion (TrAACtion) framework is presented and discussed to empower practitioners to provide neuroaffirming supports and services, and to rethink their praxis with modally marginalized communicators. The TrAACtion framework guides SLPs to implement AAC strategies and services that support disabled, nonspeaking students to use multimodal communication in every setting, situation, and with every person.
